Dispensing with the hagiography, Thomas would have been 50 yesterday. He is one of those folks that helped create an entire industry out of a singular larger-than-life vision (not dismissing the contributions of dozens of others). I always respected Thomas because he was completely out about his sexuality - and at the same time: rarely ever mentioned it because it simply wasn’t that relevant to what he was doing.
