What the Bleep Do We Know? (Hoax)

You have probably heard of the movie What the Bleep Do We Know? which purports to marry metaphysics and quantum mechanics physics into one nice, warm, gooey view of the universe. I saw the movie once and was enthralled with it’s ideas – but skeptical of the cited evidence. And even more so when I saw that one of their experts is J. Z. Knight – the lady from the New Age movement back in the 1980s that channels a 35,000-year-old spirit from Atlantis named Ramtha.

I saw the movie a second time because I wanted to stay outside the emotional experience of the arguments and watch their logic. There are huge, massive leaps of logic in the movie that totally dissolve the movie’s premise.

There is some sort of movie to be made about spirituality and quantum mechanics physics. But this is mostly an infommercial for the Ramtha School of Enlightenment.

And yes, I will say that I do believe in spiritual channeling (how else do you think the Gospels were written) and my sister and I studied it when we were pre-Goth occultists in middle school. I just thought adding a channeled spirit to (what looked like) an educated panel of experts weakened the arguments.

Maybe I should start a cult. I’m charismatic and a great leader. I just don’t think I’d be able to do the mass suicide thing. That’s so – retro. I think internet suicides is the new wave.

This film is what I want to believe about the world. Maybe that says more about me than about the film itself.

You’re starting a cult? Where do I sign up!

I saw the film and thought it was really good. Maybe it is because I was on a date and was as intraced with the movie as I was with holding my date’s hand. However, your post makes me think that I should see it again to see if I can find those holes.

I’d like to see the movie again because it was unclear to me who everyone was and why they were asked to comment. It tooke a while to figure out who J.Z Knight was and I questioned her being included, but then thought, “Why not?” I thought the format of the movie was very innovative in the way it explained concepts in a visual, MTV way. Some of the information was timely for me and had already been sparked by other sources. Still, it’s amazing that it is still playing here in Atlanta. I’m sure I’ll see it again and I’ll keep your comments in mind when I view it again.

Naw, the whole movie was made by the Ramtha cult, they take good science and twist it into statements about consciousness without any evidence to back it up.

Here’s a review talking about the production and how most of the people in the movie are associated with the Ramtha cult:

Anyone with a modicum of intelligence has the ability to ‘filter’ what they hear, see and read. The movie What the Bleep do we Know never purported the idea that everything stated can and/or will relate to you. We all have our own truths and it’s up to the individual to determine what they choose to assist in their own personal evolvement. Yes, the movie builds a bridge between science and spirituality. You, as the individual, must choose how far you’ll cross that bridge. Of course, the science is difficult to debate, but without debate, nothing progresses.

Unless you have some background in physics, particularly quantum physics, the drivel in this movie sounds plausible.

A serious investigation into the physical processes that result in consciousness and the sense of spirituality is very interesting. You won’t find any serious investigation in this movie. Each interviewee goes to great lengths to demonstrate their complete lack of knowledge of the science they purport to be presenting and explaining.
