U.S. to Draft Women?

Your body. Not your choice.

In line with today’s needs, the Selective Service System’s structure, programs
and activities should be re-engineered toward maintaining a national inventory
of American men and, for the first time, women, ages 18 through 34, with an
added focus on identifying individuals with critical skills.

Some people would say that it is probably a part of equality, that women should be expected to serve like men. On the other hand, it seems that the whole draft system should be reworked or rethought.

    COMMENT:
There is a cultural expectation that men are cannon fodder and that we must always be ready to stand up and take it like a man for our country. The Myth of Male Power takes this apart expertly. Military draft comes down to ‘my body – not my choice’ and the usurping of personal will or mission by the state for military objectives.

I think once Americans see their delicate little flower-petal girls vulnerable to having their legs blown off as easily as their snips-and-snails, the draft will be a major political issue.

Hadn’t changed any minds in Israel.

Women have proven a great asset in combat service support roles, all should have some type of service if males do too and should have to register with the selective service as do 18 year old males or lose federal benefits such as federal financial aid. Males cannot get federally backed student loans for college without having to register with selective service. Where’s Ruth Bader on this one?
