Robert Blake in Lost Highway

I finally figured out how I knew who Robert Blake was – he is that creepy guy in Lost Highway. I always loved this scene because it was so jarring – and totally no-tech:

Fred meets a mysterious man at a party.

Mystery Man (Blake): We’ve met before, haven’t we.

Fred Madison (Bill Pullman): I don’t think so. Where was it you think we met?

Mystery Man: At your house. Don’t you remember?

Fred Madison: No. No, I don’t. Are you sure?

Mystery Man: Of course. As a matter of fact, I’m there right now.

Fred Madison: What do you mean? You’re where right now?

Mystery Man: At your house.

Fred Madison: That’s fucking crazy, man.

Mystery Man: Call me. Dial your number. Go ahead.

Fred dials the number and the Mystery Man answers.

Mystery Man: [over the phone] I told you I was here.

Once, I almost gave my friend a serious hard attack at a party by calling her an playing that insane laughter off the Lost Highway soundtrack. I do stuff like that sometimes.

Almost as strange as the movie: four years after the film was made, Robert Blake’s wife was murdered. A crime for which he was charged in 2002.
