“Tormenting Iraqis, in her mind, would be no different from shooting a turkey. Every season here you’re hunting something. Over there, they’re hunting Iraqis.”

    COMMENT:
interesting article, looks like Brigadier-General Janis Karpinski was promoted to a level of incompetence….thanks to affirmative action.

I wish they would release pics of what they do to Americans !

It looks like a midget in the picture.

You see this all the time at “The Chamber” and no one ever gets upset.

All too typical of Republicans to blame problems on women and minorities.
In a military chain of command, it’s the guy at the top who is ultimately responsible.
That just happens to be a pampered and privileged Protestant white male named George W. Bush who got to his position not because he won the most votes, but because past presidents (including his daddy) of his political party appointed seven of the nine Supreme Court justices.
Thanks to his gross incompetence in invading Iraq rather than going after al-Qaeda, many more Americans will die at the hands of terrorists.

    Affirmative action indeed.

If they released pictures of American POWs being tortured would that justify our torturing of them? This war was never supposed to be about revenge. Just playing devil’s advocate – I’m all for pictures of the havoc from both sides.

No one can guess the touture that the Axis powers inflicted on the Allied troops in WWII.Read “The Rape of Nanking”or the latest book on Russian War.When you go into a war situation the enemy is not Human…Sad but true.We must have captured all the innocent people of the area and let the warriors keep their weapons……would you or could you do that to another person…only a war could answer…..

The function of warfare is to reduce the enemy to inhuman/kill-able status. Goes back to that old tale of the German and British soldiers in WWII taking time out to share Christmas together and then bombing the shit out of eachother the very next day.

Hold on chief, nowhere did I state she failed because she is a woman. There are many competent minorities and women in the service. This particular women should not have been in this position of power, and we are going to pay a heavy price for this.

Yep, all Bush’s fault. You forgot to mention that its all about oil as well.

Alright Flounder – if your remark about affirmative action wasn’t because General Karpinski is a woman then what were you referring to?

the article you posted states: “Janis sees herself as making way for women to get to the top in the US Army. But many of her soldiers said she had been promoted beyond her ability because she was a woman….She was out of her depth and on a mission to raise her own profile.”

She didn’t fail because she was solely a woman per se, she failed, at least according to her colleagues, because she was promoted to a level of incompetence because of her sex.

when liberals make comments like: “That just happens to be a pampered and privileged Protestant white male named George W. Bush…” I’m just curious as to what they think of John Kerry. Afterall, he is also a Yale graduate, a member of the ultra-exclusive skull and bones club and he married in to extreme wealth not once but twice! Yes John Kerry is a member of the cause of all society’s ills: the white, protestant male.

  12. Tim Z. Avatar

I’m just curious as to what they think of John Kerry.

    Simple.

John Kerry is not the commander in chief who has presided over the disaster in Iraq.
FDR and J.F. Kennedy came from wealthy families, but they used their positions to expand opportunities for all Americans, not just to enrich the already super rich in the manner of George Dubya Quagmire.

Also, Democrats take responsibility for military actions which go badly. Kennedy accepted blame for the Bay of Pigs as Jimmy Carter did for Desert One. They did not blame women or minorities or low ranking officials for their decisions.
By contrast, the current administration squirms while attempting evade responsibility.

The Bushies can’t even settle on a reason for the Iraq invasion.
    Take your pick:
    a) supposed weapons of mass destruction
    b) bringing human rights to Iraq (ha!)
    c) making the Middle East more stable
    d) hunting down terrorists

No one is blaming women or minorities here. You have taken what I said and distorted it in order to meet your liberal agenda. The President has apologized for the way the Iraqi prisoners were treated, there is no attempt to evade responsibility as you have implied. Those responsible will be held accountable.

You didn’t answer my question but turned into yet another opportunity to bash the President. You claim that democrats are beyond reproach in past military affairs, so lets take a closer look at John Kerry. Here is an open letter written and signed by over 200 of his fellow Vietnam veterans:

(comment edited – letter is available in full)

The President has apologized for the way the Iraqi prisoners were treated

Yeah, he just about had to be tortured into using the “s-word” (i.e. sorry) by the king of Jordan. This tepid, forced apology came a week after the disturbing photos were first broadcast on CBS.
People with low IQs tend to be more defensive about admitting fault.

Since there are several million Vietnam vets, it probably wasn’t too difficult for Karl Rove to round up a couple of thousand of them to say bad things about Kerry.
This is obviously an attempt to draw attention from the fact that George Dubya Quagmire is not a Vietnam vet himself. Instead, he used daddy’s influence to jump over the places of 500 middle class and blue collar Texans to get into the Texas Air National Guard just days before he would have become eligible for the draft. Spending time lounging with what was known as the “champagne unit” of the Texas guard was still too demanding for our first DUI president. After a while, he felt he didn’t need to attend guard meetings any longer. When your daddy is the chairman of the Republican National Committeee, it’s easy to think you are above following rules that ordinary folks have to obey.

The Vietnam Vets were those who specifically were deployed on the same swift boats as Kerry, many of them at the same time. They are rightfully angry at the accusations of atrocities that Kerry lied about when he returned and the suspicious circumstances under which he received the purple heart. You have failed to answer the question and have yet again used the opportunity to bash the President.

  16. Tim Z. Avatar

have yet again used the opportunity to bash the President.

Bush refuses to deny he was snorting cocaine before 1974, when he was supposed to be attending National Guard meetings.
Thanks for the additional opportunity to bash the president (note: lower case) with the lowest IQ since Warren Harding!

BTW, if Kerry were seriously suspected of wrongdoing, why hasn’t Ashcroft investigated?

    do’h!

It would be nice to get at least one mature response, but I see thats not going to happen. Too bad, its an excellent topic for debate. It will be interesting to see how the liberal media handles this in the coming months. Most likely they will try to sweep it under the rug.

  18. Tim Z. Avatar

If I were Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, or Rice, I’d worry more about the real war crimes being committed under their supervision in Iraq rather than trying to get Karl Rove to recruit GOP Vietnam vets to say bad things about John Kerry.
Even this conservative site didn’t find flounder’s Vietnam fantasies worthy of mention.
    http://www.enterstageright.com/archive/articles/0504/0504gotcha.htm

Back to 2004, Rumsfeld has hinted that there are photos and videos of abused Iraqi prisoners which are even worse than the ones which we have seen so far.
Should we expect to see prisoners forced to engage in bestiality under a banner proclaiming, “Mission Accomplished” while having “Re-elect Bush” tattooed on their bare bottoms?

I don’t know what this fantasy liberals have about Karl Rove having superhuman powers and able to recruit almost 300 veterans to speak out against Kerry’s false accusations of war atrocities. Again, these are veterans that served on the same swiftboats as John Kerry and are simply outraged that he is using his “war-hero” status as part of his campaign. Did Karl Rove also invent the Dick Cavett debate back in 1971? *sigh* The guy simply fabricated stories to enhance his anti-war stance, but now he wants to be seen as a war hero.

I’m an as outraged as anyone else about the humiliations the Iraqi prisoners were subjected to, and those responsible are being held accountable. Apparently, the military police at these prisons were understaffed and insufficiently trained, and the prisoners were violent and prone to rioting….a dangerous combination. I don’t see how the actions of a few unprofessional soldiers could be blamed on the President, however some heads will probaly roll and eventually Rumsfield may be one of them. It could also end up costing Bush a re-election if swing voters see things getting out of hand in Iraq.

An interesting article, no doubt it would be great if Presidential debates stuck to the issues at hand. And yes, most people will tend to support their party candidate and look for the wrong only in the opposition. I think this site is proof of that!

But one thing about being President, you are the Commander in Chief, and its important for Americans to know what kind of leader you will be in times of conflict and war. And as the article states: “None of this is to say that the character and personal conduct of elected officials absolutely doesn’t count. I supported Bill Clinton’s impeachment and believe he should have been removed from office.”

Isn’t that Ken Lay’s defense over at Enron?
What ever happened to “The buck stops here!”?
In the Bush administration, the buck stops with the lowest ranking people who will cause the least damage to the Bush-Cheney -Rove campaign.

flounder, are you so ashamed of your rantings that you have even given up your mostly anonymous identity here?

*sigh* You never did answer the question, just attacked Bush and rambled on about Rove conspiracies.

Not surprised though, I have seen some of the most mean-spirited and vicious attacks on this President by liberals in recent history. Funny thing is it tends to increase his popularity!
