Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act Passes House

Via ThinkProgress:

Those who have heard about the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act – which just passed the House and received an endorsement from President Bush – may wonder how the bill muscled its way through with such glaring problems. Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) provided a possible reason: Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and his staff apparently perverted the captions of five amendments in order to “distort their meaning and intent.” You are likely to see a pattern to his strategy…

Funny how this law was passed on the heels of a Florida judge (florida florida florida) who ordered an impregnated 13-year-old girl to have the child?

Fuck poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, and education; let’s get the government squarely between a 13-year-old pregnant girl and her rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness!

While we’re at it, Fuck homosexuals, pro-choicers, those in debt, and those who have to face the cold reality of abstinence-only “education”/indoctrination.

    Regime change, anyone?

Absolutely! But we tried already…remember? The democratic process didn’t work…he can’t be discredited (because you can’t lose what you never had)…what’s left? Isn’t there something that would embarrass him so terribly he’d leave, never to return? (From watching him, I’d have to say no.)

Maybe it’s the skeptic in me, but I was thinking about this some more today. If this law takes affect, could it very well set precedence for other aspects of civil law (a.k.a. not criminal law) to be restricted to the resident’s own state? If abortions have to be restricted to the resident’s own state, regardless of the laws of another state, could that then extend to marriage? Same-sex marriage to be more specific. Sure, Massachusetts already has a law that states only in-state residents could marry in Mass., so it’s not like out-of-state same-sex couples couples could marry there anyways. But what if another state legalized same-sex marriage. Could the Child Interstate Abortion Act be used as precedence that civil law does not carry across state lines, regardless of what the Elastic Clause states?

The only hurdles to same-sex marriage being recognized would be DOMA and any constitutional amendments.
