Adopted Kittens Alert

Ron called at 4:40pm last night.

You have to get to PetSmart right now! There’s kitties and they’re up for adoption!

So I got someone to take the last 10 minutes of my tech support shift and went over there – they were pretty cute.

Today we walked to the Anti-Cruelty Shelter downtown.

The first rule of walking into an animal shelter is do not hold an animal you do not expect to take home immediately. We of course violated this rule. Ron and I each held a kitten from a litter of four tomkitties. So tiny. So cute. They purred and cuddled us. I was hooked! I managed to forego adoption this time. We also looked at all the dogs as well. I was pleased to hear the usual tour of duty at the shelter for an animal is four days. Plus, it’s only $55 for neutering/spaying and to get them updated to the latest Kitty Service Pack.

I left sans kitties. This time.

Cats are okay – declawed (although I think it’s cruel, I believe it’s a necessity for any cat).

Dogs ROCK! Get a Shetland Sheepdog like my Lulu. She’s awesome!

Most shelters will not allow you to adopt cats unless you promise not to declaw them. It’s mean, painful, and takes away their natural defenses if they ever run away or are abandoned.

I’ll probably clip their claws initially so they don’t rip up the duvet.

Plus it’s $55 for the first cat (shots + neuter/spay) and then the second cat is HALF OFF!

Y’know – if dogs were always in my face trying to be my friend, I might have some respect for them. They seem like total ass-kissers. And I can’t stand dog breath – cats breathe with through their noses more. Plus, I don’t have a big enough apartment for a dog – and I won’t want to take poochie out for a poo in the winter.

illinois has some strict rules on kitty adoption. up north of yas theres soo many in the paper to give away. I wish i could get one but the roomate is allergic.

as far as declawing goes you can get the claws clipped down and rubber tipped. its humane and sposed to last a very long time.

Animals are like babies you should kill them if nobody wants them.

Get a kitty! Get two! You’ll be so happy 🙂 (although be ready to start sweeping and vacuuming every doggone day)… But you’ll love them!!!!

Many people don’t realize that de-clawing will have long-term debilitating effects on a cat.

Declawing is a surgical procedure, also called onychectomy, in which the animal’s toes are amputated at the last joint. Most people do not realize that a portion of the bone—not only nail—is removed.

You can learn more about it here:

In other words, just doing it once will permanently scar a cat’s paws/bone structure.

Oh I was totally being sarcastic about the de-clawing thing. I’m allergic to them anyway so I could never get one. Dogs aren’t ass-kissers, they’re Man’s Best Friend :-p But yeah, even though my dog is small, an apartment in Chicago is probably not the best place for a dog. I forgot about that.

I adopted 2 kittens from the shelter about 3 months ago, they are now 6 and 5 months old. $85 each, no discount. But they are both affectionate and little hell raisers. I wouldn’t want it any other way. They go back on the 29th of this month, one to get spayed and the other neutered.
