Journalist Uncovers Iraq Pics on Photosharing Site

US soldier flanked by two hooded men.

Iraqi man in wedding dress.

The Navy has started a probe into the misconduct of this group of Navy SEALs.

[The] reporter found more than 40 of the pictures among hundreds in an album posted on a commercial photo-sharing Web site by a woman who said her husband brought them from Iraq after his tour of duty… One man is lying on his back with a boot on his chest. A mug shot shows a man with an automatic weapon pointed at his head and a gloved thumb jabbed into his throat. In many photos, faces have been blacked out. What appears to be blood drips from the heads of some. A family huddles in a room in one photo and others show debris and upturned furniture.

How much worse does it have to get?

The pictures were uploaded to SmugMug.com – here’s a list of other Iraq-related photo albums.

My God Andy! Have I told you that I love your blog? I am in love with your fervour, your brain and your writing.

Thnx! Sometimes I get a little mired – but I’m trying to mix it up lately. Keep the fervor but sprinkle in some hope. I could definitely be accused of going overboard political-wise but I look at this blog as a document in action. I can turn back to these posts 20 years from now when a car-bomb blows up in downtown Chicago, rigged by children of torture survivors and see how it all is a terrible cycle of violence.

In the second pics the individual is using hand signals, not attempting to punch the prisoner. We do this to keep our communications from the prisoner to help with our safety and intelligence. Above all, this cannot be compared to the brutallity of Saddam toward his prisoners. Unless you have fought in Iraq, don’t judge, for thee will be judged in heaven.

Above all, these are crimes perpetrated by American troops. Saying that it isn’t as bad as Saddam does not forgive or sway anything.

Have you read about the deaths of children? The torturing of families?

I have not fought in Iraq – I will still judge and say it is a terrible tragedy what has happened – on all sides.

Did every one forget about these guys? The prisoners are well off in comparison. Just try to remember that war is war not patty cake and tea time. People die, kids die, innocents are wounded and the earth bleeds. But sometimes one must stand up and be evil to stop a greater one.
