Wal-Mart: Discriminate Against Disabled to Save Money

From Labor Blog:

To discourage unhealthy job applicants, [the memo] suggests that Wal-Mart arrange for "all jobs to include some physical activity (e.g., all cashiers do some cart-gathering)."… "It will be far easier to attract and retain a healthier work force than it will be to change behavior in an existing one," the memo said. "These moves would also dissuade unhealthy people from coming to work at Wal-Mart."

As if I didn’t already have enough reasons to hate Wal-Mart!

This is the most repugnant organization ever concieved, patronized, and allowed to grow unchecked all these years.

They long ago lost the support of this gay family.

I was already armed with ample ammo to preach against this evil little empire already, but will gladly add this shameful memo to the arsenal.

Thanks for the info…Nice to meet you, by the way..came over here via Cul at Ratboy’s Anvil. Gonna link you tomorrow.

I blogged about Wal-mart a couple weeks ago after the NYTimes did a piece comparing them to Costco — another discount retailer.

Yeah, you may save a few more cents on each item by shopping at Wal-mart, but Costco pays their people a living wage and benefits — while Wal-mart expects the community to pick up health care for their employees (via the county hospital emergency room). Also — Costco’s boss believes that by paying his people a reasonable salary, he can reduce turnover and keep an experienced, dedicated workforce around.

Amazing what you can do when you don’t consider labor simply cattle…

People point to Walmart and cry “anti-union”.
Unions enable disfavored people to live satisfactorly without addressing their disfavor. This way their family’s problems are never resolved. Without the union they would have to accept the heirarchy, their own inferiority.
    Unions serve to empower.
Walmart is anti-union because they are good. They try to help people address and resolve their problems by creating an enviornment where there are fewer hurdles.

Media ridicule and lawsuits are creations to reinforce people’s belief that Walmart is evil in a subsegment of the indistry dominated by the middle and lower classes.
Low-cost disfavored Chinese labor is utilized by corporate america to maximize margins. They all do it. Only WalMart gets fingered because they are the ones who help, and those who seek to create confusion in the marketplace want to eliminate the vast middle class who have a real chance and instead stick with lower classes who may not work otherwise. So they dirty him up while allowing the others to appear clean.

I believe the coining of the term “Uncle Sam” was a clue alluding to just this::Sam Walton’s WalMart is one of few saviors of the peasant class.
