The Hills Have Eyes (1977)

I thought I’d rent the Wes Craven classic The Hills Have Eyes on the weekend release of it’s remake. And with taglines like:

The lucky ones died first.

and

They burned the father, killed the mother and raped the sister!

I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. I still found the movie pretty bland. I don’t get into the ‘picked off one-by-one in the desert’ movies. They seem about as boring as a love story – a self-contained world where nobody affects anything outside. One good suspense scene and a repeating ‘baby in peril’ motif but not as harrowing as I would have liked. Fast forwarded through much of the second half because it lagged.

If I had to raid 1977 for a worthy horror flick to rent, the only choice would be Dario Argento’s “Suspiria.” And I’ll never forget the TV promos for that movie (which only ran after 10pm…at bedtime!)…scared the shizaaaaaa outta me!

I’m sure i’m not the first to notice, but i watched both the original and the remake, and at no point did i see any hills with eyes. On the contrary. The whole film was full of mongs on the warpath.

Perhaps someone should get on the blower to Mr Craven and point this out to him.

I took a peak aswell actually. I thought it was pretty bad, and nor did I see any hills – with or without eyes.

And even if there were hills that I may have missed (which I dont think I did) they didnt make a very big deal of them, which I would have if I was the director especially if they had eyes!!!!!!
