The government is investigating whether a variety of biotech corn that hasn’t been
approved for human consumption was used in taco shells sold in grocery stores under the Taco Bell brand, officials said Monday. The corn — which is genetically engineered to kill insects — is approved for use only in animal feed because
of unresolved questions about whether it could cause allergies in humans.
