Hundreds of Nashville Fugitives Turn Themselves in at Baptist Church

And escape going to jail:

In four days, hundreds turned themselves in for a chance to clean their slates without going to jail. The program wrapped up at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church Saturday evening, and before the last cases were wrapped up, the program was considered a major success. About 500 fugitives turned themselves in over the past four days. Safe Surrender gave them an opportunity to face their charges in a church instead of in a courthouse. Most who came to Safe Surrender were given favorable consideration on their warrants. More than 90 percent of them walked out with no jail time. Some facing less serious charges were even able to have their slates cleaned.

Now you and I both know that if they had turned themselves in anywhere else but a church this would be framed as being soft on crime.
