Coup Coup's Nest

The mere suggestion that wealth might be re-distributed to alleviate the suffering of the poor has put America’s businessmen in a panic. This must be stopped at all costs.

We need a fascist government in this country? to save the nation from the [those] who want to tear it down and wreck all that we have built in America. The only men who have the patriotism to do it are the soldiers.

In 1933.

The country’s richest businessmen attempted a military coup of the President of the United States. It failed and the congressional reports whitewashed the businessmen… you know guys from DuPont, J. P. Morgan and Goodyear.

War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.
