I vote:

Body Worlds at the Museum of Science and Industry – I can’t recommend this highly enough. Get advance tickets if you can – or go early.

Art Institute of Chicago (this can be a daylong thing – huge huge collections of amazing art from all periods/places)

Blue Man Group (if you’ve never seen it before)

Wicked is getting great reviews.

Lots of theatre in town right now at Steppenwolf, Court Theatre, etc. 

If you get tired after a long day – have Giordano’s deep-dish pizza delivered with lots of icy soda. 

If you are staying in the Lakeview/’Boystown’ area:

Eat at Stella’s, Angelina’s (chocolate bread pudding to die for), Windy City Sweets, Sidetrack bar, Ricebox, Ecce.

I don’t know jack about sports so I can’t help you out in that realm – but plenty for sports fans to watch. 

Don’t go to Navy Pier – it is a complete waste of time – it is like a mall but outside. That’s not very innovative.

    Gotta eat at Cafe Baba Reba for tapas take a huge group of people, order one or two of everything, and try it all. Not in Boystown, but still great food there. As for boystown restaurants, I think Cornelia’s (on Cornelia street) is wonderful.

    I always take folks on the Architecture Boat Tour. An hour and 1/2 cruise down the Chicago river to see a different art form up close. I am always amazed by the information. The best part is the cruise is guided by members of the Chicago Architecure Society or the Chicago Historical Society.

    Halsted Marketdays is this weekend! (Halsted Street between Addison and Belmont.) Three stages of bands and performers, food, art, etc. Usually something for everyone there – literally. 🙂

    Sunday brunch at Melrose. A good place to people watch.

    The Cubs at Wrigley can fun, if you can get tix.

    I also vote for the Architecture Boat Tour – it’s the least tacky of all the CHI tours. You learn stuff AND get to see why Chicago has the best architecture in the US.

    Go see “Wicked” with Ana Gastmeyer instead of BMG. (I say avoid Blue Man Group. Just because I hate Blue Man Group and think it’s idiotic and far too touristy like Navy Pier. No one should be allowed to make a ridiculous amount of money from bad performance art.)

    Chicago Outdoor Film Festival (Tuesdays at Sunset – Butler Field in Grant Park at Lake Shore Drive & Monroe). Free admission. “E.T.” is tomorrow night. “Night of the Hunter”, “The Hustler” and “Star Wars” follow the rest of the month.

    I’m way late on this, but I second everything that’s been said (especially the pointlessness of Navy Pier–unless you’re going to the Second City’s Romeo & Juliet Musical at Chicago Shakespeare).

    When I have visitors who’ve never been to Chicago before, I like to take them to either the Sears Tower Skydeck or the Hancock Observatory (or just the Hancock’s 96th floor for drinks at dusk). Sure, it seems touristy and cliched and there are lines, but I defy you not to be awed at the view no matter how long you’ve lived here. It’s a great reminder of the amazing city in which we live.
