I checked around me before going down the path, regardless, not really expecting anything. I didn’t see anyone. It was a very safe neighborhood anyway; we’d been picky about where we moved since I’d had enough bad experiences in places that were supposed to be safe, anything else wasn’t even under consideration. I’m halfway down this short path when I hear something behind me and I turn around. This guy is standing there, hands in front of him. I just stare at him, make no prelude to speaking or screaming or anything, and he says, “Shhhh.” [read the rest]
