Bush on Torture, June 2003

Keeping this tacked to the bulletin board: (thanks RoguePlanet)

Freedom from torture is an inalienable human right. The Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment, ratified by the United States and more than 130 other countries since 1984, forbids governments from deliberately inflicting severe physical or mental pain or suffering on those within their custody or control.

What was that again?

An inalienable human right.

One more time.

An inalienable human right.

Sometimes you can smell the stink from D.C. all the way here in Chicago.

It’s little local elections that sometimes remind me how politicians can be dumped right out of office if the will is there to do so. Yesterday our county’s Republic Sherriff was turned out of office after being entrenched there since 1989. He didn’t even win his own parties primary.

Bush must go the same direction.

It amazes me how voters don’t see the connection between local politics and national politicis. This morning on NPR, they were interviewing local NC voters about the governer’s race that is happening next month. The governer is a democrat and these two men were saying that they had not payed much attention to that race. Neither was going to vote for the current mayor because one blamed him for the lack or jobs and the other because the governer is a Democrat. However, both of these men would vote for Bush because he is doing a great job and the tax cuts were what was needed. The disconnect in logic is simply amazing.
