Air America Radio Flap

The sharks were circling yesterday as Air America Radio was knocked off the air in the Chicago and LA markets. I didn’t notice since I stream it anyway. The Trib says:

Arthur Liu, owner of Multicultural Radio Broadcasting, which owns Air America affiliates WNTD-950 AM in Chicago and KBLA-1580 AM in Los Angeles, said Air America bounced a check and owes him more than $1 million.

Air America’s response is

This Liu-ser was ripping off our boss Evan Cohen big time (he can?t do that, that?s our job). Evan found out about it and he stopped payment on a check to keep Liu-cifer from ripping him off even more.

Who’s right? Does it matter? The conservative blogging world has started feeding already and it doesn’t matter what the real truth it does it?

I will say I am starting to enjoy Randi Rhodes. She’s grown on me. Yesterday she had a playback of Ashcroft testimony and to illustrate three points of where Ashcroft majorly screwed up she had a ‘ding!’ bell sound effect. Hysterical.

I presume these are all growing pains from starting an entire new radio network in a matter of a year or so. I really think that Bowling for Columbine and Michael Moore’s book a year ago really showed that there was a market for liberal chatter. And hopefully the sales staff will get some new commercials in due time.

S???as to find more secure and more powerful outlets.
Leasing radio time from GOP donors like Arthur Liu will always be problematic.

Rush is on 50 kilowatt WLS which can be heard in Urbana, Madison, Rockford, and Milwaukee.
A few days ago, I had a hard time hearing WNTD clearly in Evanston.

If George Soros has a few bucks to spare, he should buy one of those 50 kilowatt sports stations on 670kHz or 1000kHz AM.
Right now, about half the commercial radio stations in the US are owned by about half a dozen companies. And a sizeable number of non-commercial stations are owned by conservative religious groups or fundamentalist colleges.
Progressive forces have to get into broadcasting as owners if their voices are to be heard without restraint.

    COMMENT:
The first sentence of my post (above) is supposed to be:
Air America has to find more secure and more powerful outlets.

I have no idea why it turned out that way.
    A Mac vs. PC deal?
    :O
