2nd Presidential Debate

Need some wood?

What could have been a great I’m just good people like you comeback was fact-checked within minutes of it’s utterance.

And of course the mention of ‘rumors on the internets‘ received nothing but huge derision from the entire weblog community. There is no other internet. That’s why we just stopped capitalizing it, finally.

Part of me imagines Bush and Howard Dean in a debate. The screaming would have been unimaginable. That is always so curious to me – you’ve got an entire group of sound engineers and staff behind that mic – there’s no reason to yell. I think it’s another case of playing to the audience around you instead of realizing that your bigger audience is televised.

So far the media seem to be calling this debate ‘a draw’. Though I think that may be more a way to better frame the marketing and momentum up to the final, third debate.

Until tonight I hadn’t really thought of the tax-cuts for the rich as wealth re-distribution. That sort of freaks me out.

$300 is not a tax refund. It’s more of a tax moistened towlette.

Deft negotiation with Kerry on that abortion question. Very surprised at that response.

Great mentions of the ‘backdoor draft’.

George Bush really is a punk. That or ‘brat’ is the word I come back to. I agree with commentary that because he has been so sheltered during his presidency that he really feels like he doesn’t have to answer to anybody for anything – so when he’s in a locked room with them and forced to answer questions, he just comes unglued. The jaw juts, the blinking starts and he jumps to answer before the moderator even gives him a chance to answer. He’s a brat that has a talent for casting the right supporting players to be his puppeteers.

Whoever is coaching Kerry is doing a fantastic job.

I wish they’d do better color correction between cameras. The warmth or coolness of the camera views was jarring. That or Kerry needs tons more makeup.

You know, Larry King needs a massive shoulder massage.

I was thinking today of the obsession with polling. That the voters shouldn’t really need to know polls or what’s popular. It is sort of like the trend that ‘normal people’ started taking interest in box office returns in movies. We’re more interested in the metrics than the message.

Wow, that sounded sort of smart!

I like the woman seated in the back row in a black pantsuit that looked so disgusted with the entire event. She kept massaging her neck like Christ, I would rather strip naked and make a snow-angel naked in broken glass than be here right now.
