Holy Wood by Marilyn Manson

I’m in another one of those listen to songs repeatedly phases. This time with select songs from Marilyn Manson’s Holy Wood. I always like Suck’s analysis of Manson’s branding acumen. Maybe I have no taste… but I do like these few snatches of lyrics:

and I’m not a slave to a god that doesn’t exist
and I’m not a slave to a world that doesn’t give a shit

or

You’ll never grow up to be a big rock star
Celebrated victim of your fame
We’ll just cut our wrists like cheap coupons
and say that death is on sale today

or

and I’m a black rainbow
and I’m an ape of god
I got a face that’s made for doing violence upon (though I liked this better when I thought he was saying ‘violence and porn’)
I’m a teen distortion
survived abortion
a rebel from the waist down

or

we’re on a bullet
and we’re headed straight into god
even he’d like to end it too
we take a pill, get a face
buy our ticket
and we hope that heaven’s true
I saw a cop beat a priest on the TV
and they know they killed our heroes too

then

I saw priest kill a cop on the TV
and I know now they┬┤re our heroes

and

we write our prayers on a little bomb
kiss it on the face and send it to god

I still find this music strangely fun – gleefully nihilistic and self-indulgent.

Jeff Gannon Continues Martyrdom

What a ‘wounded bird’:

[A] professor of journalism at Washington & Lee University, has determined that I am a propagandist because I reported exactly what the White House said about its position on an issue without putting a spin on it.

Actually – you didn’t un-spin the news. You essentially took White House press releases and turned them out as your own investigation. You can’t say that your reporting is ‘un-filtered’ when it comes from the most carefully managed White House PR strategy ever.

Oh and get some permalinks. And comments. Sheesh.

FL Judge Ignores Law, Forces 13 Year Old to Have Baby

A pregnant 13-year-old girl in Florida has been told she cannot have an abortion because she lacks the maturity to make such a decision. The judge’s ruling comes in spite of Florida state law which specifically does not require a minor to seek parental consent before an abortion.

A judge decided to chuck state law and all existing policy and force this girl to term. You don’t have to have parental consent to begin a pregnancy, you shouldn’t have parental consent to end it (or deliver it to term). Her maturity is moot – her body is mature enough.

LONELY IN OHIO…

I know I didn’t just wake up this morning and realize that I am not where I would like to be in my life. But my real question is “how did I get here?” How did I get to the point where I sit at home on Friday evenings and drink a half bottle of semi-cheap Zinfandel (at least its not White Zin, I guess), watching PBS and talking to my mom for an hour and a half on the phone. It didn’t used to be like this and, yet, this seems to be all that I can remember. It’s kinda like those Choose Your Own Adventure books when you were young (when some of us were young, I suppose). Somewhere along the line I choose to go through the door as opposed to staying in the room to look for more clues. Not that I want to go back into that room…it wouldn’t be the same room because time has marched on. Plus, remember in Back to the Future Pt. II when he tried to go back and change the past but it was the alternate past so then things got even more complicated. But I digress…it’s not so much a feeling of regret, but a feeling of “how the hell did I get here?” I am in Ohio after all.

So Much to Do!

Whew! I have so much to say, so much to share and so much to get cleared out of the way! Trip home went fine:

Mullet sitings: 2 (concurrent, father-son). Within 5 minutes of stepping off plane.

On Louisville Airport entrance doors: NO FIREARMS (we’ve got conceal/carry)

Regional hobby: obesity and petrol consumption.

Cake: 1, made at Williams (812-284-BUNS) + Heath bar ice cream.

Birthday gifts: clothing + Clash of the Titans on DVD. RELEASE THE KRAKEN!

Internet speed: dial-up.

Yardwork: mowed lawn for the first time in years. With dad. Sneezed like hell.

Microsoft Pulls Support for Gay Rights

The Antioch Bible Church (slogan: Black and White in a Grey World) has pressured multi-billion dollar Borg Microsoft:

[T]he $37-billion Redmond-based software behemoth quietly withdrew its support for House bill 1515, the anti-gay-discrimination bill currently under consideration by the Washington State legislature, after being pressured by the Evangelical Christian pastor of a suburban megachurch.

Megachurch? Megachurch?Microsoft is the biggest church around!

House Bill 1515 would protect gays and lesbians from discrimination in employment, housing, banking, insurance, and other matters by adding sexual orientation to a state law which already bars discrimination on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, marital status, and mental or physical handicap.

Why is Microsoft worried about some harmless group of so-called ‘Christians’? How can a tiny church threaten one of the most powerful companies in the world?

Americablog sez:

Dear Microsoft: You messed with the wrong faggots. You’re planning a 2.2 million square foot expansion of the Microsoft campus in Redmond over the next ten to twenty years. The expansion, we hear, would allow you to hire 10,000 to 20,000 new employees. We also hear that you’re going to need a lot of help – a LOT of help – from the state legislature and the Redmond city council to actually make that expansion work, for highway and road improvements and the like, and that not everybody is real happy about it.
